How to use Solid Shampoo and Conditioner

The environmental and practical benefits of using solid shampoo and conditioner bars may be surprising. They are zero plastic, zero unrecyclable waste, more cost effective as they last for months, and packed full of natural ingredients that deeply penetrate the hair to make it soft and silky without the harsh chemicals. There there are dozens of reasons to make the switch.

But, if they're so good - why are people still using liquid shampoo and conditioner?

Even if you’re on board with the concept of solid shampoo and conditioner, it’s perfectly normal to be slightly daunted by actually using one.

Have you just bought your first bar? Maybe you’re only considering switching from bottle to bar, but want to know how it actually works before taking the plunge? Read on to find out just how simple it really is!

How to use solid Shampoo:

Using solid shampoo bars isn't really any different from using liquid shampoo. Here are the four simple steps on how to use a solid shampoo bar to get healthier, softer hair:

  1. Wet your hair with warm water, and between your hands wet the solid shampoo bar
  2. Swipe the bar directly to your wet hair
  3. Put the bar down, and using your fingers massage the shampoo into your scalp until it gently lathers.
  4. Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water

Our top tips:

  • Remember that solid shampoo bars are far more concentrated that liquid shampoos. A little goes a really, really long way.
  • Focus your lather on your scalp
  • A solid shampoo bar will last a few months, which further increases the benefit to the environment of it being plastic free AND will save you money. How many bottles do you normally get through in say, two months? Think of all that plastic you'll save from going to landfill!
  • The shampoo will become foamy, but won't bubble as much as a liquid shampoo or bar. This is because solid shampoos don't contain the drying sulphates of liquid shampoo.

How to use solid Conditioner:

Once you’ve successfully used your solid shampoo bar, pick up your solid conditioner bar

  1. Swipe your conditioner bar along wet hair, paying particular attention to the ends
  2. Put the bar down, and gently massage the conditioner down through your hair strands
  3. Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water
  4. Enjoy healthier locks that look and feel softer and more shiny!

Our top tips:

  • Just like the solid shampoo, conditioner bars are far more concentrated that liquid shampoos.
  • Focus your lather on your ends
  • If your hair is very dry or prone to frizz, leave the conditioner to soak in for a few minutes
  • Warm water helps to open up the hair follicles, and cold water helps to 'close' them up. Try using a cooler water temperature to end your final rinse to help lock in all the natural goodness from the Natural Spa solid conditioner!

Tips for thick or long hair

You might have struggled with shampoo or conditioner bars in the past, particularly if you have thick or long hair.  Follow these simple tips to make the bars easier to use:

  1. Make sure your hair is really wet. The bar needs water to activate the ingredients and when you have more hair, that requires a bit more effort
  2. Try loosely sectioning your hair and rub the shampoo bar into the hair close to your scalp
  3. You may want to shampoo twice if your hair tends to be oily
  4. For conditioning, sectioning will make it easier to apply evenly
  5. Leave the conditioner on your ends for a while if they tend to be dry or brittle

And that's it! Make the switch now with our vegan friendly, plastic free Natural Spa collection of solid shampoo and conditioner and experience super silky hair, and do your bit to help the planet!
